Bonus Terms

Editor: Updated

Casino bonus terms explain what an offer credits, which actions qualify and what must happen before related funds can be withdrawn. A headline percentage leaves many of those questions unanswered. This guide explains wagering bases, game contributions, stake limits, timers and cashout caps with hypothetical calculations and selected public operator examples. Use the bonus hub to compare offer categories and the guide hub for related explanations.

Read the reward, restrictions and withdrawal conditions together

A bonus has more than one number. The percentage or spin count describes part of the reward. Wagering, eligible games, maximum stakes and deadlines describe the conditions attached to it. Withdrawal restrictions determine what happens to an eligible balance afterwards.

What is credited?

Identify the bonus amount, qualifying deposit, spin value and any package stages. A package ceiling is not necessarily a single credit.

What counts?

Find the wagering basis, contribution rates, eligible games, maximum stake and time available. A low multiplier alone cannot answer these questions.

What can leave?

Read the treatment of bonus funds, cashout caps, withdrawal minimums and verification conditions. A playable balance is not automatically withdrawable.

Keep the specific promotion description and general bonus terms together. A cashier message may identify the account’s actual offer, while a public advert summarises it. If an important detail is missing or inconsistent, record the gap rather than filling it with the most favourable assumption.

Our glossary explains common labels. The how-to-play guide covers game controls, which are separate from account promotion conditions. A game’s paytable does not necessarily tell you whether its stakes count towards an account bonus.

Calculate the match before reading the playthrough

A deposit match is normally expressed as a percentage of a qualifying deposit, subject to a stated ceiling. In an imaginary 150% match up to A$300, an A$40 qualifying deposit would generate A$60 of bonus credit. An A$250 deposit would reach the A$300 bonus ceiling rather than producing A$375.

The hypothetical A$40 deposit plus A$60 credit gives A$100 of combined playable funds before any further conditions or charges. It does not establish A$100 of immediately withdrawable cash. Check whether the credited bonus is cashable after completion or removed under a sticky-bonus rule.

A payment method’s minimum deposit and a promotion’s qualifying minimum can differ. A cashier accepting A$10 does not prove that a particular offer with an A$20 minimum will activate. Also check whether separate payments can be combined or whether a single qualifying transaction is required.

Package totals need the same care. A headline covering several deposits is a sum of conditional stages, not necessarily the first reward. The welcome bonus guide explains the existing packages, while low deposit pokies separates account funding from offer eligibility.

The wagering basis matters as much as the multiplier

A requirement described only as 30 times is incomplete without its basis. The multiplier might apply to the bonus, deposit plus bonus, spin winnings or another defined amount. These are different calculations, even when the displayed multiplier is identical.

Take an imaginary A$40 deposit and A$60 bonus. At 30-times bonus-only wagering, the qualifying target is A$1,800. At 30 times deposit plus bonus, the target is A$3,000. Applying the multiplier to the A$60 bonus alone in the second case would understate the target by A$1,200.

Wagering usually concerns qualifying stakes rather than the amount lost. A round can contribute its eligible stake whether it wins or loses, subject to the offer rules. A target of A$1,800 is not an instruction to lose A$1,800, nor a forecast of the eventual balance.

The low wagering comparison explains why smaller multipliers can still produce larger targets when the bases differ. Our wagering calculator can show arithmetic for a stated basis. It cannot decide which basis applies when the actual terms leave it unclear.

Contribution rates convert stakes into qualifying progress

A game contribution rate describes how much of an eligible stake counts towards the requirement. At 100%, an A$1 stake records A$1 of progress. At 25%, the same stake records A$0.25. At 0%, it records none; the terms must also be checked for whether the game is permitted at all.

Suppose a hypothetical requirement is A$800. If every relevant stake contributes 50%, A$1,600 of actual eligible stakes would be needed to record A$800 of progress. At 20%, the corresponding amount is A$4,000. Neither figure says the starting balance will survive that turnover.

For a mixed invented record, A$100 of stakes at 100% plus A$200 at 20% gives A$140 of qualifying progress. The total staked is A$300. Confusing the two totals could make the remaining requirement look much smaller than it is.

Use contribution for its stated purpose. It is not a payout percentage, a discount on the round price or a game’s RTP. The game hub describes formats, but no format name alone proves a promotion’s current contribution rate.

Check the complete cost against the maximum bonus stake

A maximum bonus bet is a limit on an action while the relevant promotion is active. Check whether the rule concerns the total round stake, individual lines, an optional extra stake or a feature purchase. A small-looking base stake does not establish that a separately priced option fits the limit.

For example, Ripper’s public promotional rules state maximums of $5 for non-VIPs and $10 for VIPs per game round, including a Buy Feature purchase. Those are the operator’s stated conditions, not a recommendation to use the maximum or a guarantee that an account qualifies as VIP.

An imaginary feature priced at 80 times an A$0.20 base stake costs A$16. A rule covering that purchase must be compared with A$16, not just A$0.20. Read the bonus buy guide for the distinction between a normal round and a feature price.

Also check when a restriction stops applying. Do not assume that an increased balance, a completed spin allocation or an empty bonus panel proves every condition has ended. The applicable promotion record and written rules need to agree. A game accepting an action does not itself establish that the action complies with the bonus conditions.

Eligible, excluded and zero-contribution games differ

An eligible game is one the offer permits under its stated conditions. A zero-contribution game may add no wagering progress, but an excluded game can carry a different consequence. Do not assume those labels are interchangeable or that an available lobby button establishes permission.

Restrictions can concern particular titles, suppliers, table games, progressive games or optional modes. Read the offer’s actual list rather than concluding that every pokie counts because the advert features reels. A game’s jackpot or feature rules also need to be read separately.

A hypothetical A$1,000 target would not be reduced by A$100 spent on a game contributing 0%. If the game is prohibited while the promotion is active, the question extends beyond arithmetic to the operator’s stated treatment of that action. Do not describe it merely as slower progress.

The progressive jackpot, Megaways and Hold and Win pages explain mechanics. The provider directory supplies background. Neither replaces an active offer’s eligibility list or makes its conditions uniform across casinos.

Free spins have an allocation and a separate outcome

A spin count does not by itself state the monetary allocation. Fifty imaginary promotional spins at A$0.10 each represent A$5 of allocated stakes, not a guaranteed A$5 award. Actual prizes depend on the game outcomes, and the treatment of those prizes depends on the offer.

If those spins hypothetically produce A$8 of winnings subject to 20-times winnings wagering, the target is A$160. Multiplying the A$5 allocation by 20 would answer a different question. Read whether the basis is winnings, initial spin value or another stated amount.

There can also be separate deadlines for using the spins and completing playthrough on their winnings. An assigned game, fixed stake, conversion cap or maximum cashout can matter. An in-game feature awarding free spins is a different arrangement from a casino account promotion.

Compare free spins without a deposit and no deposit bonuses for those offer categories. The free pokies guide covers demonstrations, whose credits are not a promotional cash balance waiting to be withdrawn.

Identify what starts and ends each timer

A deadline needs an event and a time zone. An offer might expire before redemption, while a redeemed bonus has another completion window. Free spins can have their own use-by deadline. Do not treat the date in an email as a complete description of every timer.

In a purely hypothetical 72-hour window starting at 14:00 UTC on a Monday, the same fixed-hour interval ends at 14:00 UTC on Thursday. A rule stating three calendar days, a local midnight or a business-day deadline could work differently. Use the actual wording rather than silently converting between them.

Check what expires: unused spins, remaining bonus credit, related winnings or the ability to claim. Likewise, identify whether a feature started before expiry can finish afterwards. Missing detail should be resolved in the promotion’s written information; this guide does not assume a universal grace period.

A deadline is not a reason to raise stakes or extend play beyond a spending or time boundary. If a promotion cannot be completed within acceptable limits, that is a material condition of the offer. The support page covers help options, and existing player offers remain separate account decisions.

Distinguish cashout caps from wagering and withdrawal limits

A cashout cap limits the amount the promotion permits to become withdrawable under its stated calculation. It is different from a wagering multiplier. A hypothetical 20-times bonus cap on A$30 of credited bonus produces A$600; it does not produce an A$600 wagering target.

The cap’s basis matters too. If the qualifying deposit was A$20 but the rule uses the A$30 bonus credit, using the deposit would give the wrong A$400 answer. Read whether a ceiling includes, excludes or separately returns a deposit rather than assuming that treatment.

Ripper’s public rules provide a concrete example: standard deposit bonuses have a stated 20-times credited-bonus cashout limit, with a separate VIP rule and offer-specific exceptions. The Ripper review and welcome guide give package context. This is not a universal cap for the other casinos.

No bonus cashout cap does not mean no withdrawal limits. A payment method can have minimums or transaction ceilings, and an account can have periodic payout limits. Read withdrawal limits and withdrawals for those separate stages. Completing turnover is not the same event as receiving a bank payment.

Understand which balance is playable or withdrawable

An interface may distinguish cash, bonus, restricted winnings and withdrawable funds. Read which balance is used first and how prizes are allocated. A combined lobby total can be useful for play while concealing several different withdrawal treatments.

A cashable bonus and a sticky or non-cashable bonus should not be assumed equivalent. For an invented rule that removes A$60 of bonus credit from an A$180 eligible balance, A$120 would remain before other applicable conditions. That example applies only to the explicitly stated removal rule; it is not a description of every offer.

Cancellation also needs its own explanation. Find out what happens to the deposit, bonus, associated prizes and outstanding games before requesting it. A label saying remove bonus does not, by itself, establish the exact amount left afterwards. Ask for an itemised explanation when the effects are unclear.

The banking hub separates payment processes from promotion balances. For a simple record, opening balance plus external funds added minus funds removed plus game awards minus stakes should reconcile when all entries are included. Bonus credits, forfeitures and transfers need their own entries rather than being mislabelled as game prizes.

A public code does not establish account eligibility

A promotion can be limited by new-player status, previous claims, country, age, household, payment method or intended recipient. Read the conditions attached to the exact offer. A working public code is not proof that every account can retain the resulting promotion winnings.

Check the activation sequence and whether the offer must be selected before a qualifying deposit or any play begins. Do not assume a code can be applied retrospectively. Also read how an existing balance, an active promotion or a pending withdrawal affects eligibility.

Where an account is not eligible, opening another account or using another person’s details does not resolve the underlying condition. The account verification guide explains ownership and identity questions. This guide does not perform sign-ups, claims or document submissions.

The bonus code guide covers the existing named offers. For Australian readers, ACMA’s guidance explains restrictions on online casino-style services supplied to Australia. An available code, overseas licence or Australian-dollar display does not establish Australian authorisation.

Compare different bonus types on their own terms

A welcome match, reload, cashback reward and free-spin offer can use different qualification rules. A returning-player label does not say whether a reward is cash, restricted credit or spins. A cashback percentage also needs a defined qualifying base and period.

For an imaginary 10% cashback calculation on A$80 of defined qualifying losses, the reward is A$8. If that credit has 10-times bonus-only wagering, the target is A$80. Those numbers do not establish that a website uses that loss definition or that the reward is immediately withdrawable.

Likewise, wager-free normally describes the absence of an additional wagering requirement under the stated offer, not necessarily the absence of eligibility, verification, expiry or withdrawal conditions. Read the remaining terms rather than replacing the entire document with a single label.

The reload, cashback, existing player and low wagering pages separate those categories. Comparing the same fields across offers is more useful than assuming all returning-player rewards work alike.

Make conflicting public information explicit

Ozwin illustrates why both general and specific descriptions matter. Its general promotional terms state 35 times deposit plus bonus for deposit coupons unless otherwise stated. Its welcome FAQ describes the two welcome stages with 30 times deposit plus bonus and 20 times free-spin winnings.

The comparison table below retains the general 35-times figure, while the welcome guide explains the specific FAQ wording. We do not silently present either statement as proof of the requirement on an individual account. Confirm the actual coupon’s terms and its recorded target before relying on an interpretation.

A useful clarification identifies the offer name, code, page, clause and contradictory numbers. A generic reassurance that terms apply does not answer which basis, multiplier or deadline applies. Keep the written explanation together with the promotion description and timestamp.

The Ozwin review provides wider context. This example is a reading method, not a claim that an operator’s general terms always override a specific offer or the reverse. When material information remains unresolved, the comparison should show that uncertainty.

Use records and calculators for defined questions

A compact offer record can contain the code, qualifying deposit, credited reward, wagering basis and multiplier, contribution, eligible games, stake limit, expiry and cashout treatment. Add the source and date checked. Leave missing fields blank or marked unknown rather than inventing terms.

If an imaginary fixed target is A$1,200 and verified qualifying progress is A$350, the remaining target is A$850. A new game prize is not automatically subtracted from that target; progress follows the offer’s qualifying-stake rules. Changing the displayed balance alone cannot establish the remaining turnover.

The wagering calculator and tools hub help illustrate stated inputs. A game’s RTP and volatility do not supply a complete forecast of bonus completion, balance depletion or final cashout. Arithmetic is useful when its assumptions are visible.

For an unresolved record, retain the relevant promotion details, round references and support case reference. Keep passwords, full card details and identity documents out of a general worksheet. The general FAQ links to related topics; a calculation on this page cannot settle an account dispute or guarantee a payout.

Compare the welcome packages with their conditions

These four welcome packages show advertised structures alongside key restrictions. The table is a summary, not the complete promotion document or a personal eligibility check. Read the applicable coupon information and the linked reviews before treating a headline as a withdrawable amount.

Bonus terms FAQs

What should I check in casino bonus terms?

Identify the reward and qualifying deposit, then the wagering basis, multiplier, game contribution, eligible games, maximum stake, expiry and cashout treatment. Check account eligibility and the specific coupon information as well as general terms. A headline percentage does not establish how much is withdrawable or whether a particular account qualifies.

What is the difference between bonus-only and deposit-plus-bonus wagering?

They apply the multiplier to different amounts. For an imaginary A$40 deposit and A$60 bonus, 30-times bonus-only wagering gives a target of A$1,800. At 30 times deposit plus bonus, the target is A$3,000. Neither figure is the amount a player must lose or a guarantee that the balance will last.

Does a winning round count towards wagering?

Progress normally follows the eligible stake and stated contribution rate rather than whether the round wins or loses. Check the particular rules. At a hypothetical 25% contribution, an A$1 eligible stake adds A$0.25 of progress. The award from that round is a separate amount and is not automatically deducted from the turnover target.

Is a zero-contribution game the same as an excluded game?

Not necessarily. Zero contribution describes no qualifying progress, while exclusion can mean the game is not permitted during the promotion and can carry a different stated consequence. Read both the eligible-game list and the restriction wording. A lobby allowing access does not itself prove that bonus conditions permit the action.

Does the maximum bonus bet include a feature purchase?

It can. Read whether the rule covers the full round commitment or a Buy Feature purchase. An imaginary feature priced at 80 times an A$0.20 base stake costs A$16, so the base stake alone is not the relevant comparison for a rule covering that purchase. Do not assume a confirmation screen checks promotion compliance.

Are free-spin stakes the same as free-spin winnings?

No. Fifty imaginary spins at A$0.10 each allocate A$5 of stakes but do not guarantee A$5 of prizes. If they produce A$8 of winnings with 20-times winnings wagering, the target is A$160. Check the stated basis, eligible title, deadline and cashout treatment rather than applying the multiplier to the wrong amount.

Is a cashout cap the same as a wagering requirement?

No. Wagering defines qualifying turnover; a cashout cap limits the amount allowed under the promotion's withdrawal treatment. A hypothetical 20-times cap on A$30 of bonus credit gives A$600. Read the cap's basis and treatment of the deposit separately. Payment-method and periodic account withdrawal limits can still apply.

Can I assume a bonus expires at local midnight?

No. Identify what starts the timer, its time zone and whether the rule uses fixed hours, calendar days or a stated deadline. The unused spin allocation and wagering on its winnings can have separate windows. Check what funds or rights expire, and do not assume a grace period that the offer does not state.

Does no wagering mean there are no other conditions?

No wagering describes the absence of an additional playthrough requirement under the stated offer. It does not automatically remove eligibility, expiry, verification, payment or withdrawal conditions. Also confirm whether the reward is cash, restricted credit or spins. Read the full offer before treating a single label as a description of every condition.

What should I do when general and specific bonus information differ?

Keep the offer name, code, source and exact conflicting wording together, then request written clarification of the actual coupon requirement and recorded target. Do not silently choose the smaller multiplier or assume a universal priority rule. A calculator can explain a known basis, but it cannot determine which unresolved terms apply to an account.
